El Paso, Texas– On May 16, Mayor Oscar Leeser and City Representative Isabel Salcido, proclaimed May 16 as “Veronica Castro Day” in the City of El Paso. The proclamation was presented during Destination El Paso’s annual National Travel & Tourism Week Luncheon.

During the event, city officials, industry partners and special guests enjoyed lunch and a special presentation on travel and tourism’s impact on El Paso’s economy. Jose Garcia, President and CEO of Destination El Paso, and Executive Director of Visit El Paso, Brooke Underwood, led the afternoon’s presentation.

In the presentation’s closing remarks, Veronica Castro, Director of Tourism Development & Strategic Alliances, was recognized for her outstanding tenure of 20 years of service to Destination El Paso and El Paso’s tourism industry. Castro holds double hospitality and tourism industry certifications administered by the Texas Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus – Texas Destination Marketer and Certified Tourism Executive.

In the past two decades, Castro has served as a remarkable professional whose expertise has grown El Paso’s tourism and leisure sector. Through her tenure, Castro has led Visit El Paso’s Tourism Development department and several initiatives to grow El Paso’s market for tour operators, travel writers and influencers. She has solidified El Paso’s relationships between Ciudad Juárez, Mexico and Fort Bliss, Texas.

In addition to her efforts to expand El Paso’s tourism development, Castro has fostered notable partnerships with international industry groups and organizations between Mexico and Canada, further expanding El Paso’s presence on a local, national and international scale.
