Costuras Territoriales features the work of five women artists whose practices emerge from and remain in conversation with the U.S.–Mexico border region and its lived realities. Though their work moves fluidly across disciplines, they share an interest in textiles as sites of knowledge, care, and critical reflection.
Drawing from the intertwined histories of industrial labor, the region’s agricultural past, and the cycles of gendered and organized violence that have shaped the border region, the artists engage textiles as a living language and archive through which histories are carried, contested, and remade. Regional plants, body fluids, and rusted fragments of the border wall hold traces of the region’s histories and lived realities, while acts of stitching, weaving, and dyeing become gestures of resistance, remembrance, and repair.
