The Texas Film Commission honored El Paso Film & Creative Industries Commissioner Drew Mayer-Oakes at this year’s annual Film Friendly Texas Forum on May 16, in New Braunfels, Texas. This accolade recognizes Mayer-Oakes’ remarkable 41 years of work in the Texas film industry and his profound impact on El Paso's film, television, music and creative scenes.
Since taking on the role of Film Commissioner for the City of El Paso, Mayer-Oakes has played a pivotal role in attracting numerous film, television and musical productions to the region, fostering local talent and stimulating economic growth through the creative industries. Part of Mayer-Oakes’ initiatives involve fostering El Paso’s presence as a Film Friendly Certified Community – the city is part of a statewide program that provides an elevated platform for certified communities to market their unique attributes and resources directly to media industry professionals working in Texas.
In addition, Mayer-Oakes oversees El Paso’s participation as a Music Friendly Community, as designated by the Texas Music Office – a program that seeks to foster music business-related economic development in Texas cities and communities.
Through the Film & Creative Industries Commission, El Paso has seen a significant increase in production activity, with both independent and major studio projects choosing the city for its unique landscapes, local crew and supportive business community. Mayer-Oakes’ efforts have elevated El Paso's profile within the entertainment industry and contributed to the local economy by creating jobs and promoting tourism.
