The City of El Paso’s destination marketing organization, Visit El Paso, proudly joins communities across the country in celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) from May 4 through May 10, 2025. Each year, Visit El Paso dedicates this important week to spotlighting the power of travel—not only in shaping the identity and vitality of the Sun City—but also in contributing to the state’s tourism sector and the broader national economy.
NTTW is an initiative of the U.S. Travel Association and serves as a platform to highlight travel’s essential role in driving economic growth, creating jobs and strengthening the country’s global competitiveness.
“Travel is one of our nation’s most powerful economic engines—supporting millions of jobs, fueling businesses, and propelling industries forward,” said U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman. “National Travel and Tourism Week reinforces the pivotal role travel plays in building a stronger, more prosperous America.” Since its establishment in 1983, NTTW has underscored the travel industry’s critical contribution to U.S. economic strength, community vitality, and quality of life. In 2024 alone, the U.S. travel industry generated $2.9 trillion in economic output, supported more than 15 million American jobs, and produced $190 billion in tax revenue—an amount equivalent to $1,490 per U.S. household.
In 2024, El Paso recorded over 3.8 million visitors to the city, with a total direct travel expenditure exceeding $2,261,000,000. Visit El Paso works year-round to elevate the city as a top travel destination through strategic marketing, tourism development and industry collaboration.
To commemorate NTTW 2025, Visit El Paso will host a series of events beginning May 4 with a Downtown Mural Bike Tour. On May 7, Visit El Paso will host a Downtown Visitor Information Center grand opening, offering free paletas in the morning and light bites and entertainment in the afternoon. On May 10, a special Ambassadors Day celebration will take place, inviting all El Paso Ambassadors to attend a tour of the Socorro Mission, Bodega Loya and Licon Dairy.
“Travel drives economic opportunity and strengthens our community,” said Jose Garcia, President and CEO of Destination El Paso. “This National Travel and Tourism Week, we celebrate travel’s undeniable impact and reaffirm its importance in shaping our local economy and quality of life.”
