El Paso, Texas – February is nationally observed as Black History Month, a month dedicated to honoring the history and contributions made by African Americans. The City of El Paso will display Love Letters in San Jacinto Plaza, February 1 – February 28, to pay tribute to Black History Month. Since 1976, Black History Month has been formally observed in the United States and was originally founded by historian Carter G. Woodson.

The Love Letters series are a recurring campaign made possible by Visit El Paso, the City of El Paso’s destination marketing organization. Love Letters are designed and put on display for recognition of month-long annual observations. While the letters are on display, the El Paso community is encouraged to visit San Jacinto Plaza and take photographs of the letters to be part of honoring Black History Month.

“Love Letters in the community serve to remind us all that El Paso is an inclusive and welcoming city. The letters are an acknowledgement of both national and local movements and efforts,” said Jose Garcia, President and CEO of Destination El Paso.
