Witness Nothing examines artists’ interpretations of the desert, liminal spaces, and marginality to highlight the viewer’s part in completing the artistic experience. The artists featured in this selection, drawn from the Lannan Foundation’s 2025 gift to the Rubin Center, utilize diverse media to explore these concepts, ranging from the delicate nuances of light in photography to the reductive power of minimalist sculpture. Located in El Paso, Texas, the collection of works also resonates with the region’s own sense of in-between spaces and expansive landscapes. By engaging with these artistic perspectives, viewers are prompted to consider their own relationship to place and perception. Ultimately, Witness Nothing invites contemplation of substance within perceived emptiness, blurring the boundary between observer and observed.
