Plaza Theatre Downtown El Paso

History tends to repeat itself. But we can avoid that by never forgetting one of the darkest chapters in human history. At 7pm, Monday, January 27, 2025, in the Plaza Theatre, the El Paso Community Foundation and El Paso Holocaust Museum and Study Center will present What Once Was…A Holocaust Remembrance Play.

Admission is free. No tickets are required. The Plaza Theatre is now cashless and has a clear bag policy.

What Once Was is a moving multi-sensory experience of poetry, visual images, music, dance and vivid description. An emotion is evoked that transforms spectators into personally involved witnesses at the trial of modern civilization. The evening is an incisive challenge to the human conscience.

What Once Was is a reimagined concept by Director Georgina Escobar of a Holocaust Remembrance program produced at the Chamizal National Memorial Theatre May 4, 1981 by Sally Gilbert and Norma Geller for the El Paso community, based on extensive historical research.

We invite you to join us on January 27, 2025, 7pm, in the Plaza Theatre for this poignant reminder of the world in which we live, to remind us evil still exists and how vital it is to recognize and embrace the critical lessons of Holocaust history on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
