The UTEP Wind Symphony presents their first concert of the 2026-2027 season. The concert title “unfinished” speaks to the commonality of the two major works to be performed: a new symphony for band by Arturo Márquez entitled Sinfonia Nomada (Nomadic Symphony) and the “Barcelona” Clarinet Concerto of James Stephenson, which features Dr. Jim Logan as soloist. These two works challenge the notion of “completion” in music, from Márquez’s wandering through unfamiliar terrain to the final movement of the Stephenson based on the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona - a cathedral that was famously “unfinished” until just recently. The Wind Symphony will also perform a new transcription of Márquez’s Marcha Sonora, conducted by graduate conducting student Timothy Marquess.
The Franklin High School Wind Ensemble will perform on the first half of the evening’s concert under the direction of Mr. David Bouma and UTEP alumni Mr. David Alvarado, Mr. Patrick Caraveo, and UTEP student-teacher Mr. Logan Jones, a former member of the UTEP Wind Symphony.
