Based on the saucy bestseller of the same name, this sophisticated workplace drama makes an overdue debut at the Plaza Classic. Hope Lange, Suzy Parker, and Diane Baker play a trio of beautiful young secretaries working in the typing pool at a giant publishing company in 1950s Manhattan. Each woman has big dreams of finding Mr. Right, of making it to the top of the corporate world, or of becoming the toast of Broadway. But each finds more than her fair share of obstacles, from rotten fellas to abusive bosses. Though great fun to watch as an elevated melodrama, the film was also ahead of its time with its subject matter of workplace abuse and women’s rights. The big names in the supporting cast include Hollywood legend Joan Crawford and Louis Jourdan. — Jack Fields
