Treat your senses to the sights, sounds, and tastes of desert foodways—how we grow, prepare, and share food in our desert region. This event highlights the arts and cultural practices of local agroecology as experienced by the intergenerational practitioners of the La Semilla Food Center community. Come celebrate the stories, knowledge, and creative traditions that honor the people and practices sustaining our desert foodways.

Les Sembrantes (The Sowers) centers artistic practices rooted in the memory, ecology, and cultural knowledge of the Chihuahuan Desert. Featuring new work by artists from La Semilla Food Center’s Desert Cultural Fellowship, the exhibition foregrounds storytelling as an act of resilience and transformation, proposing that holistic knowledge—the wisdom of a complex, interconnected system—is most powerfully shared through narrative, and embodied practice.

By gathering artists whose work enacts this pedagogy of place, Les Sembrantes positions the border’s edge as a fertile ground for understanding the whole, inviting viewers to shift their relationship with the land from consumption to connection. In honoring the sembrantes, the exhibition also honors the possibility of a future cultivated with intention, rooted in justice, and nourished by the wisdom of land and community.
