It may be difficult to imagine winter approaching while we are still experiencing the heat of the end of the El Paso summer, but colder temperatures will soon arrive. For many underserved children in our community, the winter months bring challenges that go far beyond simply feeling cold. Many children from families facing transportation and financial barriers spend extended periods outdoors walking to and from school or waiting at bus stops. For a child without a properly fitting winter jacket, those cold mornings can affect their comfort, health, and ability to arrive at school ready to learn.
The current rising costs for basic needs also mean many families must prioritize housing, food, transportation, healthcare, and other necessities, leaving limited resources for warm clothing. Children grow quickly, and the jacket that kept a child warm last winter may simply no longer fit this year.
The Underserved Communities Foundation also believe how we come together to provide support matters. UCF purchases brand-new, high-quality jackets from local retailers, selecting the same styles that parents and guardians would typically purchase for their own children. This ensures that no one can distinguish between a jacket provided through Jackets for Kids and one purchased by a child’s family. Beyond warmth, every jacket provides dignity, confidence, security, and belonging. At an average cost of just $20, you can provide a brand-new winter jacket for a child in need.
Here’s how we can make an impact:
Make a Donation: Every contribution matters, and approximately $20 provides one brand new winter jacket.
Start a Workplace Fundraiser: Invite your coworkers to create a team and set a fundraising goal. A $500 team goal, for example, can help provide approximately 25 children with new jackets.
Invite Friends and Family: Share the UCF Jackets for Kids initiative with your personal and professional networks and encourage others to join your efforts.
Spread the Word: Share the campaign through social media, your workplace, civic groups, or other community networks.
