Special Guest Lee Trevino

2015 PGA of America Hall of Fame

Lee Buck Trevino, one of golf’s most engaging and successful players, was born into poverty in Dallas, Texas. Raised by his mother and grandfather, he started working at age 5 and left school at 14 to support his family. After serving four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, Trevino turned professional in 1960. His talent was spotted by PGA Life Member Bill Eschenbrenner, who helped him enter the PGA Tour.

Trevino won his first U.S. Open Championship in 1968 at age 27 and went on to win six major titles, including two U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, and two Open Championships. He played on six U.S. Ryder Cup Teams and served as Captain in 1985. Trevino was the 1971 PGA Player of the Year, won five Vardon Trophies, and received the 2013 PGA Distinguished Service Award.

In 1971, Trevino won the U.S. Open, Canadian Open, and Open Championship in a remarkable four-week period. Despite being struck by lightning in 1975, he continued his career, winning 29 titles on the Champions Tour, including two Senior PGA Championships. Trevino is also known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and his support for the military and has appeared in recruiting announcements for the U.S. Marines.
