In the 12 years since we last showed this now 50-year-old classic, the state of modern journalism has declined with many turning to less reliable social media platforms for their information. This modern classic is based on solid investigative journalism, notably the stories filed and eventual book written by the Washington Post’s Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. Director Alan J. Pakula and his stellar cast turn the true story of President Richard M. Nixon’s downfall — he resigned 52 years ago next month — into a taut political thriller, complete with absorbing performances by stars Dustin Hoffman and the late Robert Redford, who bought the rights to Woodward and Bernstein’s book in 1974. — Doug Pullen
