Jr. Graphic Designer
This role supports Destination El Paso and its subsidiaries (Visit El Paso, El Paso Live, El Paso Water Parks) by creating dynamic graphic design solutions for a variety of marketing and promotional materials. The Jr. Graphic Designer will produce high-quality designs for marketing collateral, advertising, web, and public relations projects, meeting deadlines efficiently. They will execute projects based on a production queue, following brand guidelines and incorporating feedback. This role requires strong layout skills, typography knowledge, and an understanding of Gestalt design principles to create effective compositions. The Jr. Graphic Designer must also proofread and edit designs to ensure accuracy and consistency. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) is essential, along with a strong understanding of design principles and typography. Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills are vital, as is the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a strong working knowledge of Adobe’s Creative Suite, with a primary focus on Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
- Produce high-quality design solutions with speed and accuracy
- Think creatively and critically to generate new ideas within the boundaries of the established brand guidelines
- Use ingenuity to find successful design solutions within provided cost and time constraints
- Be able to properly prepare both print ready and web ready files
- Design across a wide range of media and platforms
- Keep abreast of developments in software and technology
- Execute projects assigned by supervisor for both internal and external purposes. These projects include, but are not limited to, print and digital advertisements, online content, and any appropriate marketing collateral
- Work directly with Sr. Graphic Design Coordinator and Communications Manager on photo shoots, video creation, print ads, interactive media as well as any other marketing materials that may be needed
- Assist in the brainstorming, planning, designing, and procurement of promotional materials to fulfill Destination El Paso’s staff needs
- Collaborate with the Marketing team and take creative direction from the Sr. Graphic Design Coordinator
- Be responsible for the design and layout of ads to be used in publications promoting Destination El Paso’s venues and/or special events
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 - 3 years’ experience in a Graphic Designer role
- Proficiency with design principles and best practices is essential
- Image editing skills, including resizing, adjusting, and image optimizing, are foundational skills
- Strong knowledge of corporate branding, digital media, and color theory
- Expert knowledge across Adobe Creative Suite, with preferred expertise in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Lightroom
- Strong typography and compositional skills
- Ability to work on and prioritize tasks for multiple projects
- A portfolio highlighting mastery in graphic design across multiple mediums
- Strong proofreading skills and ability to ensure typography text elements are free of errors and have high-impact legibility
- Graphic design skills, layout skills, customer focus, and handles feedback constructively
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Mac and PC platforms
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to learn, adapt, collaborate effectively, and take direction from others
- Detail-oriented, inventive, expert, and practical approach to creative work
- Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule to produce accurate and effective results
- Illustration skills are a plus
- Holds a valid Texas driver’s license and able to operate a variety of vehicles
- Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures
- Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary
- Position is not substantially exposed to adverse conditions
- Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Graphic Design
- Minimum 1 year in graphic design role
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time
- Daily sitting, focusing on and operating a personal computer or terminal keyboard to enter data for over 60 minutes at a time
- Ability to read printed words and numbers in printed form and on computer/terminal monitor
