Los Portales Museum is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition, The Seeds We Sowed, which features agricultural objects from the region and photos depicting the rural lifestyle of the 20th century. This highly community-driven exhibit presents stories and information about how agriculture has shaped the area of San Elizario. Various workshops will be planned throughout the duration of the exhibit. It will be inaugurated during the San Isidro Fiesta, the patron saint of farmers, a celebration done for the first time in 20 years; it is expected to draw three-thousand people on that day. The Seeds we Sowed presents information about products, the sciences, and agriculture’s socio-economic impact throughout San Elizario’s history. This exhibit is a collaborative effort brought together by Bodega Loya, UTEP’s Biodiversity Department, and the City of San Elizario. The Seeds We Sowed aims to educate the public about agriculture and its effects on the San Elizario area. “San Elizario had its foundation on agriculture. In the past, almost all residents were farmers. Even those with other jobs, had their own small farms.” SEGHS Lillian Tujio recalls. Agriculture is one of the original pillars of the San Elizario area. As we take this time to celebrate its importance with our community, we want to extend our exhibit to the greater El Paso community. To educate about our agricultural past, present and future.
