It is timeless in capturing Mankind’s ignorance when faced with the unknown, and its thought-provoking concept employs many religious parallels. Screenwriter Edmund H. North(PATTON) based his work on the short story Farewell to the Master by Harry Bates. Bernard Herrmann’s haunting score is brilliant and the direction by Robert Wise (WEST SIDE STORY, THE SOUND OF MUSIC) moves at a rapid-fire pace.
