The Soldier Art Workshops (SAW) project is a joint venture of the El Paso Art Association and WMR (Welfare, Moral and Recreation) from Fort Bliss, Texas. The SAW project provides free art workshops taught by over 40 local area artists to active duty soldiers, their families and military veterans living in El Paso. Special emphasis is given to serving recovering wounded members of the Warriors Battalion at Fort Bliss. Several art exhibits featuring the art produced by SAW workshop participants are exhibited at Fort Bliss and at the El Paso International Museum of Art during the year. The “painted helmets” exhibit features WWII style helmet liners painted by workshop participants and by their artist instructors. The helmets will be auctioned at this event and all proceeds from the auction will go to support the Soldier Art Workshop project and the participating artists. The public is welcome.
