This year’s recipient is Mr. Salvador Balcorta. Like other Segundo Barrio children Balcorta knew the harsh realities of growing up within a seemingly endless cycle of poverty. Drugs, gangs, substandard housing and non-existent health resources were daily facts of life.

For 25 years Salvador Balcorta, MSSW has served as CEO of Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe-and has been instrumental in establishing community grassroots initiatives which have won state and national recognition for their innovative approaches to addressing the health needs of area families. La Fe has emerged as a growing El Paso County-wide network of 22 community-health, education, behavioral-health, social service, and human-services sites.
