The Consulate General of Mexico in El Paso and the Centro Cultural Mexicano Paso del Norte invite the media and the border community to the inauguration of the “Ocaso” pictorial exhibition by Mexican artist Carlos Bazán.

The “Ocaso” is the sunset over the horizon, but for Carlos Bazán it also means decay or disappearance of something, so in this pictorial exhibition addresses issues such as the disappearance of the language, culture, stories, and legends of indigenous peoples.

In the sample, you can see the stories and legends of the region of Oaxaca, which run through their veins, showing a perspective where humans and nature are not enemies but coexist in the harmony of cosmic balance.

Carlos Bazán

Carlos Bazán Ramos, originally from San Cristóbal Suchixtlahuaca, Oaxaca, Mexico. He is an artist of the chocholteca generational band in Mixteca oaxaqueña. Son of the landscape in the fullest sense: language, culture, aridity, song, color, spiny jungle, nopaleras, and magueyes. People of the rain (Ñuu Savi) that sinks its roots in remote civilizations and in whose corollary new paradigms emerge. Carlos Bazán is one of his spokesmen. Its varied theme transcends shapes and colors or, better yet, turns the landscape’s soul into dialectical and subversive cartography that hallucinates the topics and leads us to a paradoxical journey with backpack and kaleidoscope.

His taste for art begins at age 15, so in 2008 he participated in a workshop held at the house of culture of San Pedro and San Pablo Teposcolula, where he is guided by the Spanish teacher Enrique Martorell. Since then he has begun to perform unpublished work inspired by his surroundings and his daily life.

Since 2013 he exposes to the public series of paintings such as Tachycardia, Lunar Seas, Infinity, Tree of Life, Nahuales and Globetrotters.

Carlos Bazán has 30 individual exhibitions and 85 collective exhibitions, has exhibited in different venues such as Monterrey, Merida, Durango, Guadalajara, Cancun, Cozumel, Mexico City, Puebla, Chihuahua, Querétaro, Oaxaca, as well as in Barcelona, Paris, and cities in the United States such as: Los Angeles, Laguna Beach, San Diego, Chicago and Miami.

It is evident that the logic of Bazán’s work has to do with impressions, they lead the eye through an ecosystem whose internal significance may mean that everything is one. It seems that Bazán warns that not in the sky but on the earth is the color and that its all tight variety is its deepest wealth.
