The Foundation for Las Cruces Museums has scheduled the return of its biennial Navajo rug auction fundraiser, to be held at noon on Saturday, November 13, in the Center for Spiritual Living at 575 North Main Street in downtown Las Cruces.

“We are especially looking forward to this year’s fundraising auction,” said Foundation President Randy Fromm. “The Burnham family always brings a wonderful assortment of rugs, jewelry, and other Native American items, so there really is something for everyone.”

The sale is staffed by Museum Foundation volunteers, and the Foundation receives a percentage of all sales to help it continue to fulfill its mission of helping to support the programs of the four Las Cruces City Museums. The auction is conducted by R.B. Burnham Company of Sanders, Arizona. The family-run company has been serving the Native people of the southwest for five generations, according to Fromm.

As in previous years, there will be a Friday evening session for informal appraisals of Native American items (no paintings or kachinas) for a fee of ten dollars per item. Native-made jewelry will also be available for sale during the session.

A preview of the items to be auctioned will be held from 9 AM to 11:30 AM Saturday, and bidding will begin at noon. Entry is free and open to the public.
