Samba for Sanctuary!
February 17, 2019
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
4106 Montana, El Paso, TX 79903
This workshop will feature two prominent dance forms from Brazil, Samba and Bloco-Afro. Samba is a fast-paced rhythm and dance style with West and Central African roots. It is traditionally danced as a solo in a circle but also has prominence in social gatherings and Rio’s annual Carnavals. Bloco-Afro was created by Afro-Brazilian communities in Bahia to honor their African roots and resist racism and oppression. It features sweeping proud movements to a slower rhythm created by Olodum as part of the global Black is Beautiful movements of the 1970’s.
No prior experience is necessary for this workshop. Wear comfortable clothes. Shake, sweat, and smile as we groove to some of the world’s most awesome music!
