Art Talk

January 28, 2023
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
1 Arts Festival Plaza

El Paso Museum of Art

Join multi-media visual artist Isadora Stowe in a presentation of her practice and exhibition, illuminated. Learn how each of the works embody a visual vocabulary or “narrative syntax” to capture the intricate layers of the human experience. Talk will take place in EPMA’s EP Energy Auditorium.

Stowe’s art focuses on the narrative of environment translated and coded into complex psychological landscapes. She grew up in the southwest border region, living and working in New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico. Stowe credits these experiences for providing a heightened awareness of geographical and political boundaries and a fascination with the exploration of identity of self and the construction of home in her work. Stowe earned her MFA in Painting and Drawing and BFA in Painting with a double major in Cultural Anthropology, minor in Native American Studies. Her work is in the permanent collections of the University of New Mexico, Taos and Gallup Campuses, Western New Mexico State University, Silver City and the City of El Paso, TX. Notably, she earned an Award for Excellence from the New Mexico Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
