The Princess Bride is a 1973 novel by William Goldman claiming to be an abridgment of a non-existent story written by S. Morgenstern. it is a tale of “true love and high adventure, pirates, princess, giants, miracles, fencing, true love, and rodents of unusual size”.

A farmhand, accompanied by befriended companions along the way, must rescue his true love from an odious Prince. The story is presented in the film as a book being read by a grandfather (Peter Falk) to his sick grandson (Fred Savage), thus effectively preserving the novel’s narrative style.
