The first installment in the Indiana Jones film franchise introduces Harrison Ford as archaeologist Indiana Jones, who battles a group of Nazis searching for the Ark of the Covenant. Director George Lucas outdid himself after the phenomenal STAR WARS in 1977 with another record-breaking franchise. In late May 1977, Lucas was in Hawaii, trying to escape the enormous success of Star Wars. Friend and colleague Steven Spielberg was also there, on vacation from work on Close Encounters of the Third Kind. While building a sand castle at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Spielberg expressed an interest in directing a James Bond film. Lucas convinced Spielberg that he had conceived a character “better than James Bond” and explained the concept. Spielberg loved it, calling it “a James Bond film without the hardware.” Nominated for 9 Academy Awards - winner of 5. Thundering music score by John Williams. A 4th film is set for release in 2021!
