The El Paso Central Business Association (CBA) with the affiliation of the Consulado General de Mexico and The City of El Paso are giving the citizens of El Paso the gift of its 37th Annual Posada for all the citizens of El Paso. A posada is the traditional way of celebrating this season of peace on earth and joy to all, and has its roots in Mexico. It is a re-enactment of Joseph and Mary seeking “shelter” so that Mary can deliver the Christ child. Traditionally the shelter is denied and a procession where children are given candy to help in the search for shelter. There are special songs (villancicos), food, and traditions that accompany this re-enactment. There will be piñatas for the children, champurrado (a hot chocolate drink), atole, pan dulce and buñuelos as well as singers, dancers and actors. This is a local culture and indigenous way of commemorating the season and celebrating our culture. An additional reason for celebrating this Posada for all the citizens of El Paso is to feature our friendly relationship with our sister city Cd. Juarez, Mexico. Both the El Paso and Cd. Juarez religious leaders along with the El Paso and Cd. Juarez local Governments have been invited. Open to all the City of El Paso regardless of their religion or ethnicity. Come be a part of this unique opportunity to celebrate our peace in this region together as one community at this special time of the year.
