Seasonal WinterFest Manager

Under general supervision, the seasonal WinterFest Manager will manage day-to-day operations of WinterFest, El Paso’s outdoor ice rink and festival at Arts Festival Plaza in downtown from October to January.

The Seasonal WinterFest Manager will be responsible for Overseeing Operations for the following:
- Event set-up and Tear down
- Hiring, training, and supervision of WinterFest Staff
- Greeting Patrons
- Skate Pass Sales
- Skate Rentals
- Ice Rink Operations
- Special Feature Operations
- Daily set up and clean up
- Winter Market Vendors

• Creates event set-up plan and tear down plans for internal departments
• Works with Special Events Coordinator to schedule event entertainment and special events
• Manages on site execution of event entertainment, special events, and private parties
• Plans and organizes various personnel and activities necessary to establish a safe and efficient environment
• Interviews, hires, and supervises WinterFest Staff (15 – 20 staff)
• Trains event staff, and other personnel in protective procedures, fire safety and other emergency procedures.
• Trains and ensures the highest quality customer service to WinterFest Staff
• Schedules WinterFest staff for day-to-day operations and special events. Continues to adjust and update work schedules to reflect cost efficiency and building activity.
• Works extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends & holidays.
• Manages day-to-day needs and organization of WinterFest Vendors
• Manages ticket sales, skate rentals, Greeting, Ice Rink & Special Features Operations and daily set up and clean up
• Ensures and maintains a clean and organized area for patrons
• Answers and appropriately responds to customer needs

• Communicates with internal departments to address critical needs

• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with police, fire, EMS and other security personnel and/or safety organizations
• Handles complaints, disturbances or related problems with the public, staff or clients and promoters
• Investigates, reports, and provides follow-up on incidents including damage or injury to the facility or individuals
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Works within the guidelines set forth in SMG’s Management Credo
• Maintains, always, high standards, positive attitude, and professional appearance
• Other duties as assigned

• Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED
• Must be available to work 20 – 40 hours a week between October 1, 2019 and January 10, 2020
• Must work nights, weekends, and holidays
• Need a valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
• Exceptional customer service REQUIRED
• Computer savvy, familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Able to effectively supervise and motivate staff
• Able to tackle challenges constructively, and find creative ways forward
• Able to operate Ice Cart similar to Golf Cart
• Demonstrate high level of energy and self-motivation to work effectively and enthusiastically with co-workers

• Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED
• Ice skating skills preferred

• Position is not substantially exposed to adverse conditions.
• Significant standing and walking for long periods at special events, including outdoor events in local weather.
• Ability/licensed to drive automobile.
• Ability to move frequently between various buildings/venues daily.
• Ability to routinely sit, focusing on and operating a personal computer or terminal keyboard to enter data or writing with a pen/pencil and paper for over 60 minutes at a time.
• Ability to read printed words and numbers in printed form and on computer/terminal monitor.

• Office hours are equivalent to WinterFest Operating Hours
• Frequent additional hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays, flexible schedule required.
• This position is within an outdoor environment, however, requires office time several times a day for scheduling and reporting.
