Join us on a ruck march up the Old Tin Mine Road in honor of those we have lost to suicide and in support of those still struggling to find a way to live after their service.
This year for suicide awareness month we invite you to join us for a ruck march out to the Old Tin Mine trail in the Northeast section of Franklin Mountains State Park. This moderately difficult trail is a well-marked old jeep road with a gentle but steady climb for about 3 miles until you arrive at the intersection with the Mundy’s Gap trail. You have the option to explore two of the old shafts and the ruins of the smelter or heading straight back the way you came. Total distance is between 5.6 and 6 miles depending on the route.
Bring: Please provide your own weighted pack. The target pack weight for this ruck march is 17 pounds to represent the average of 17 veterans we lose to suicide every day.
Other essentials: water, snacks, hiking boots/shoes, and comfortable clothes.
Meeting Location: Chuck Heinrich Memorial Park. The check-in station as well as information booths will be set up in the park at the end of Jon Cunningham road. There is limited parking, so please consider car pooling if you are coming with others.
Schedule:
Check-in begins at 7:30 am
Opening ceremony will begin at 8:00 am
Participants may begin the ruck march between 8:00 am and 9:00 am
All participants completing the march should check-out by 1:00 pm
