The El Paso Museum of History will unveil the Tom Lea mural, “Southwest.” Tom Lea is an acclaimed artist from the twentieth century with extraordinary gifts as a muralist, illustrator, war correspondent, portraitist, landscapist, novelist and historian. The mural was painted in 1956 as a collaborative effort between Lea and his wife Sarah. It is the only known collaboration of its kind between one of El Paso’s most prolific artists of the mid-twentieth century and his wife. His murals, dating from the 1930s, express the history and character of the Southwest region. With the support of the Tom Lea Institute and in partnership with El Paso Public Libraries, the El Paso Museum of History will temporarily host the mural.
