With primary cesarean rates in El Paso upwards of 35% and VBAC rates at less than 5% in most of our hospitals, there is a tremendous need in our area for discussion on the topic of vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). Although they are rarely counseled about this, each repeat c-section raises her risk of placenta accreta in subsequent pregnancies – a dangerous condition is associated with a 7% mortality rate.

This January 27, The Desert Doula and The Retreat will be hosting a training with VBAC Facts, an education, training, and consulting firm. Our speaker, nationally-recognized VBAC expert Jen Kamel, will be flying in from California to teach her signature course “The Truth About VBAC” at UTEP.

Professionals and parents who want expecting families to receive accurate information about VBAC and support for their right to informed consent concerning their bodies and medical decisions will find answers here.

The training is approved for 6.6 nursing continuing education hours.
