Mezzo-soprano Cherry Duke and pianist Dena Kay Jones with special guest David Ross, clarinet, perform “Women’s Work.”

“No one these days thinks that women are less capable than men at, well, most things. Still, works by women are often overlooked when one talks about great art, great music,” says Cherry Duke. “I think that people assume that women’s compositions haven’t survived because they’re just not as good as the pieces written by men. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth.”

“Women’s Work” features classical works by women composers Pauline Viardot, Alma Mahler, Lori Laitman and a set of popular tunes by Mary Rodgers, Lucy Simon, Margaret Bonds and Goldrich & Heisler, including their hilarious “Alto’s Lament.”
