Visit the dormant Orgrande mining district and have a chance to collect copper minerals, crystals, and other beautiful rocks. Your guide will also explain the geology and natural history of the area. Meet at the Valero on Hondo Pass and Gateway N Blvd. We will carpool from there. High-Clearance vehicle such as a pickup truck or SUV is strongly recommended. Also bring sturdy shoes, hat, lots of water, snacks, a collecting pack for rocks, and optional bucket for happy cactus soil.

Sponsored by the El Paso Cactus and Rock Club, this is the same field trip as El Paso’s Oldest Trace Fossils: Knapp Canyon on October 6. The club meets monthly throughout the year on the first Saturday of the month. The meetings start at 10.00 AM with the business meeting. The meetings are generally held at 3105 Grant Street, in El Paso. Occasionally there are no meetings, or the location is changed.
