Social Workers in health and mental health care settings who work with families and individuals facing sudden or expected death may face challenges in upholding ethical standards while attempting to abide by legal mandates. This workshop will provide an opportunity to address these two conflicting aspects in the provision of care. Objectives: Participants will -Identify who is able to make healthcare decisions when the client is unable to do so -Explore the different types of Advanced Directives and requirements that affect the client’s or family’s decision-making -Examine real-life case scenarios to identify legal versus ethical dilemmas -Examine common myths in dealing with end-of-life decision-making -Explore culturally sensitive perspectives in assisting clients and families in executing Advanced Directives
