Will today’s technology ever catch up with Star Trek and Captain Kirk’s orders of “Warp speed, Mr. Sulu?” It’s the 21st century and we still use rockets to get around the solar system, but somebody does have an idea for a warp drive. Join Museum Education Director Dave Dooling for the Launch Pad Lecture on Friday, November 4, as he takes a look at rockets (and why we still use them), gravity slingshots, space elevators, and even folding space to travel faster than light. Coffee and donuts will be served and are compliments of the International Space Hall of Fame. The next Launch Pad Lecture will be on December 2 and the topic will be The Women Behind the Men: Mercury, Gemini & Apollo with Museum Curator Sue Taylor. The Launch Pad Lectures are streamed live on Periscope and are available on the museum’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2SirhgX3NsxcREfOVLjHeA.
