Introducing our 6th Nerd Night: Prehistoric Tracking

How did animal tracking skills help Dr. Eric Kappus discover the dinosaur tracks in El Paso? Join us for a special DinoTrack hike, dinosaur-themed dinner, and animal tracking Nerd Night talk guided by Dr. Kappus at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing. Feel free to join us for Dr. Kappus’ talk or the talk and the special hike; see the schedule for more information about each activity.

Prehistoric Tracking Schedule:

4 pm – 6 pm: Special DinoTrack tour with Dr. Eric Kappus and Insights’ DinoTracks guides (directions to the trail head in Sunland Park will be emailed to you upon ticket purchase)

6 pm – 7 pm: DinoTrack dinner served at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing

7 pm – 8 pm: Prehistoric Tracking talk by Dr. Eric Kappus

Dr. Eric Kappus is a professor at Southwest University at El Paso. He is also a Research Paleontologist for New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, a Research Associate Professor at UTEP, and an Education Consultant. Holding a Ph.D. and a Masters degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Texas at El Paso, Dr. Kappus researches trace fossils, sense of place, and environmental education. He discovered the only dinosaur footprints in the El Paso/Juarez region, as well as the oldest trace fossils in El Paso. Dr. Kappus is also a five-time graduate from Tom Brown’s Tracking, Nature and Wilderness Survival School and is an expert in ethnobotany and aboriginal skills.
