Learn some history in the Franklin Mountains. Take a 2-3 hours round trip hike to the site of the March 1944 B-24 crash, killing all aboard. You will see the Memorial erected by El Paso resident, Marcus Uribe, who witnessed the crash from his backyard. Read a blog post about the event as well as the crash of a B-36 on the other side of the mountain. The terrain is rocky and there is no trail. It is not recommended for pets or children. Bring sturdy footwear, two liters of water, some snacks and wear sunscreen.
