National ParkRx Day encourages everyone to start seeing visits to parks and public lands as very important parts of their health. Guadalupe Mountains National Park will feature a 1:00 p.m. “mind, body and spirit” excursion that will take hikers to Pratt Cabin and the Grotto, a 6.8 mile round-trip into the desert and canyon woodlands within McKittrick Canyon. The hike to Pratt Cabin and the Grotto is rated moderate; the hike and Park Rx program will last four to five hours.

Hikers and visitors wanting to join can meet at the McKittrick Canyon contact station; the entrance to McKittrick Canyon is located on US Highway 62-180 seven miles north of Pine Springs and 11 miles south of the Texas-New Mexico state line. The national park encourages participants to bring a reusable water bottle, snacks, sunglasses/eye protection, good shoes and sunscreen to have a safe and enjoyable hike.
