Region’s largest native and desert-adapted plant sale! FloraFEST is the annual fundraiser for the maintenance and operation of the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens and is the largest sale of its kind in the region. Shoppers can choose from more than 2,000 native and desert-adapted plants. This year’s FloraFest will feature some new plants as well as some old favorites. The Chisos Red Oak is a new tree addition that is a great colorful tree for El Paso that has spectacular fall color and is of moderate size. Another addition is the ‘Nuevo Leon’ Mexican Rosewood that will make an excellent evergreen screen about 15 feet in height with dark green leaves and a large white umbel flower. A newly introduced, very florific, False Red Yucca ‘Desert Flamingo’ also will be available. Many locally adapted colorful ground covers, perennials, shrubs and trees will be available during the two-day sale. Shoppers can also visit with local Master Gardeners and other plant experts for advice on how to care for their plants. Most of the plants sold at FloraFEST are not available at local nurseries or retailers.
