The Consulate General of Mexico in El Paso, the Centro Cultural Mexicano Paso del Norte and the University of Texas at El Paso invite the border community to the Film Festival “Época de Oro”, a time when Mexican cinema acquired its own identity and had a great artistic and commercial impact on the world.

Macario is a fantastic drama of the year 1959, directed by Roberto Gavaldón and starring Ignacio López Tarso.

An adaptation based on a novel by Bruno Traven that is created on a story by the Grimm Brothers. It is set in the era of the Viceroyalty of New Spain of the eighteenth century on the eve of a Day of the Dead.

It was one of the most famous Mexican films of his time and the first film of this country to be nominated for an Oscar from the Hollywood Academy in the category of best foreign language film.

Synopsis

A poor farm worker makes a strange pact with death, since he lives obsessed with his poverty and the idea of death.
