Meet and hear guest violinist Madeleine Mitchell, who will be joined by UTEP Professor of Piano, Dr. Dena Kay Jones.

Ms. Mitchell is a British violinist who has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in over forty countries. She has a wide repertoire and is particularly known for commissioning and premiering new works, and for promoting British music in concert and through recordings. Mitchell is a professor at the Royal College of Music, Artistic Director of the Red Violin Festival and Director of the London Chamber Ensemble. Dr. Jones is a United States pianist who has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout her own country, as well as in Spain, Italy, Mexico, France and Canada. In addition to maintaining a widely varied repertoire from the standard piano literature, Jones has focused her energies in performance and research of the Spanish piano repertoire. Don’t miss these women as they synergistically share works by composers from and perceptions of Britain and Spain. Works to be performed include:

Salut d’Amour, Op. 12 and Chanson de Matin, Chanson de Nuit Op. 15 by Edward Elgar, Sonata for Violin and Piano by Enrique Granados, Farewell to Stromness by Peter Maxwell Davies, Worlds Apart by Richard Blackford (U.S. premeire) and Sojourner Truth by Errollyn Wallen. The duo will also perform Ralph Vaugh Williams’ The Lark Ascending, as well as selections of Joaquín Rodrigo’s 7 Canciones Valencianas para violín y piano.
