Día de los Muertos celebrations have gone VIRTUAL this year! Beginning Monday, October 26th, join in on a week full of FREE virtual, family friendly programming presented by the El Paso Museum of Art, El Paso Museum of History & El Paso Museum of Archeology.
CALL FOR POETRY AND PICTURES: • Become a part of the celebration! Submit your own Calaverita Literaria poem. These satirical poems are a popular Mexican tradition during Day of the Dead, where the author uses humor to portray death or the death of a loved one. You can also include a drawing to go along with your poem- Get creative! (To learn more about Calaverita Literaria poetry click here: https://tinyurl.com/calaveritaliterarias • Show us how you celebrate Día de los Muertos from home! Share photos of your altares, catrina make-up, deceased loved ones or other Día de los Muertos related activities.
Submit poems and photos to EPMAeducation@elpasotexas.gov by 12 noon on Thursday, October 22nd for your chance to be featured in our Día de los Muertos webpage and social media starting Tuesday, November 2nd through Friday, November 6th. Please scan or take a photo of your poem and send to us as a JPG file. All submissions should be family friendly and traditional of Day of the Dead. Entries will be made available via the El Paso Museum of History’s digital community archive, accessible online through digie.org
Programming will premiere on the following dates: Wednesday, October 28th at 6pm EPMH Virtual discussions of history and traditions with Calaca Maldonado.
Thursday, October 29, EPMARCH Paper marigolds workshop.
Saturday, October 31st at 12 pm EPMH Calavera makeup tutorial.
Sunday, November 1, EPMARCH Day of the Dead downloadable activities
Monday, November 2, EPMA “In His Words”, recorded talk by artist Adrian Wolf
