Ever wonder how El Paso’s stormwater system captures rain that rolls off the Franklin Mountains? This is your chance to see a combination of channels, basins, ponds and a pump station to learn how millions of gallons of water are collected to prevent flooding. EPWater Stormwater Engineering Division Manager Gisela Dagnino will host this free tour.

Meet in the parking lot of the TecH2O Center at 10751 Montana Ave. EPWater will provide a shuttle for ease of transportation to the multiple facilities.

Prior to leaving you will watch two short videos describing the need and purpose of the stormwater system and information on the Gateway Ponds. We will begin the tour promptly after the videos, so it is recommended that guests arrive on time.

For the 2018 Stormwater Tour, participants will see:

· Scheduled Stop - Fairbanks Sediment Catch Structure

· Scheduled Stop - NE Chanel 2

· Scheduled Stop - Van Buren Dam

· Scheduled Stop - Louisiana Dam and Ponds

· Scheduled Stop - Magnolia Pump Station

In addition to the scheduled stops, our stormwater engineers will point out additional sites like the Northgate Dam visible from the bus, as well as explaining how city streets are designed to transport water during rain events.

The tour is open to guests ages 10+. Appropriate, closed-toe shoes are required since there will be some walking involved as we tour the structures.

We anticipate the tour might last until 12:30pm, so if any participants have any strict time constraints, we will provide maps and they are welcome to follow behind the bus in their own vehicles.
