The UTEP Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens is proud to present Cabinet of Curiosities!

During the Renaissance, elites had accumulated vast amounts of wealth through trade from Europe, Asia and the Americas. Not only did they accumulate wealth, but they also accumulated many curiosities. These objects would be displayed in large rooms or cabinets. The Centennial Museum, El Paso’s first museum, established in 1936, opened with a wide array of artifacts. In a sense, we were El Paso’s first Cabinet of Curiosities. Each one of our objects have a unique story to tell. It is our hope that within this exhibit a more inclusive story of the objects and what they represent will be told.
