The Soldiers of the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss invite the El Paso community to attend their annual Armed Forces Day Celebration at Biggs Park, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 21. The event is free and open to the public.
The festivities start at 10 a.m. with a selection of patriotic music and the Armed Services Medley performed by the 1st Armored Division Band.
Armed Forces Day features the military personnel and the equipment they use daily. The public will be able to talk to the military personnel and learn more about what they do, as well as be up close with their equipment. Fort Bliss units are displaying the Abrams Tank, Bradley Fighting Vehicle, Patriot Launcher, Blackhawk helicopter, and much more.
Area Active, Reserve and National Guard units can participate and inform the public about their equipment and opportunities their services provide.
Entertainment lined up includes the Military Police Working Dog Teams, the 1AD Band’s Rock Band performance and the area high school JROTC Programs’ Armed and Unarmed Drill Teams Competition.
El Paso area high school JROTC armed, unarmed drill teams sharpen their skills throughout the school year and are competing for top honors in precision drills.
Other activities at Biggs Park include the Law Enforcement, Emergency Services displays, and several organizational displays. The organizational displays include the Fort Bliss Recycle Center and the Texas Department of Transportation’s “Look Twice for Motorcycle” safety campaign.
There will also be a variety of food and drink concessions available at a minimal cost.
When entering Fort Bliss, have Driver’s License, proof of insurance and vehicle registration readily available.
