Annual Posadas Celebration and Luminaria Lighting Festival

The Annual Luminaria Lighting Festival and Las Posadas Presentation will be held on December 22rd, 5-10pm. The Posadas Presentation is an important part of the Mexican Christmas celebration. The word posada means “inn” or “shelter” in Spanish, and this celebration recreate Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to stay in Bethlehem. The presentation will be at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in San Elizario. It will be followed by the breaking of the Christmas Star Piñata for the children and Live Entertainment. The annual Bicycle and gift Giveaway will end the celebration. Mr & Mrs Santa Claus will be on hand. The Luminaria Lighting of over 5,000 luminarias in the San Elizario Historic District will take place shortly after sundown and remain lit throughout the evening. Traditional fare will be on hand.
