For the second year, the SUNSET FILM SOCIETY and the INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF ART is pleased to be presenting the 2nd annual INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. We will be showing films from France, Mexico, Poland and Spain and are honored to be partnering with the Alliance Francaise d’El Paso (Josette Shaughnessy), General Casimir Pulaski Polish American Society of El Paso (Joanna K. Sikorski) and the Consul Honoraria de España en El Paso (Martha Vera).

Film historian, educator, writer, archivist, publisher, collector and host Jay Duncan returns to the INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF ART with Saturday afternoon film presentations. He was the first to bring a weekly series of Classic Films to El Paso Southwest venues and provide historical background and encourage audience participation and discussion.

Sept. 23 - OCHO APELLIDOS VASCOS (“Eight Basque Surnames”) Spanish with English Subtitles By Popular Demand! Requested to be shown again after our 1st International Film Festival in May, 2016.

Starring: Clara Lago, Dani Rovira, Carmen Machi Directed by Emilio Martínez-Lázaro

Rafa (Dani Rovira) has never left his native Seville, Andalusia, until he meets a Basque girl named Amaia (Clara Lago), who resists his seduction techniques. Against his friends’ advice, he follows her to Euskadi after she stays the night in his house and forgets her purse. A series of misunderstandings forces Rafa to impersonate a full-blooded Basque with eight surnames, and he gets more and more entangled in that character.

The film premiered on March 14, 2014. Six weeks after its release, it became the second biggest box office hit ever in Spain, behind AVATAR; becoming the…“Highest-grossing Spanish comedy in history”.
