As of this spring El Paso has a new venue for healthy family fun. The soccer team, Indios U.S.A., has made El Paso its home and it is creating many opportunities for the Sun City community.

The vision for El Paso’s newest soccer team was initiated in 1993. It was then that local entrepreneur and current General Manager of the Indios USA, Mitch Doblado, was actively involved with the El Paso Patriots.

“I believe that soccer is a fabulous sport and the games are a great opportunity for families to unite, share some great quality time and have healthy fun,” said Doblado.

After serving in the organization for many years and perusing his interest for healthy family fun, Doblado got involved in the board for the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation.

It was there, that Doblado learned of the citywide need for parks that cater to the necessities of handicapped children. He then began to instigate and learn why the city had not supported the needs of children with disabilities.

“ I then found out that the cost of a play grown for children with disabilities is very costly. These playgrounds need to meet special characteristics such as ramp through out the entire playground, they can’t have sand or foam. The city was not able to pay for these constructions. It was then that I decided to create Playground Connection,” said Doblado.

Playground Connection is a non-profit organization that is capable of building playgrounds catered to children with disabilities. The company, through Doblado fundraises and builds the playgrounds, which are then sold at property cost only to the city.

“In order to provide the quality playgrounds, I needed money and staff. I could not do everything by my self.”

Doblado decided to use his past experience with the Patriots as a possibility to fund raise funds for the parks designed for kids with special needs, and to create a new venue of healthy family fun. While speaking to different community members, Doblado found out that the Indios of Juarez, a Mexican professional soccer team, was looking to creating a franchise in the United States.

Besides being a Division 1-A soccer team, the Indios of Juarez provide assistance to the Tarahumara Indians of Chihuahua and have several programs to benefit the Juarez community. As an expansion of the franchise, the sports organization was looking to have the same positive impact in the community.

“Indios is an ideal company to fundraise for the parks for children with special needs and provide healthy family fun. I spoke with the Indios de Juarez G.M. and he loved the idea and we created a partnership,” added Doblado.

Now as the General Manager of the newest soccer team in the area, Doblado would like for Indios USA not only to help provide assistance to the playgrounds, assist in creating a healthy and fun family environment, but also to open a door of opportunity for local talented athletes to venture to professional soccer.

“There are currently eight sub-branches of Indios U.S.A. These branches are to encourage a healthy and active life style for border area children ages 3 to 18. Once the child gets to the 18 and over bracket, they can try out to be part of the professional Indios U.S.A. soccer team,” said Gabriela Perez, spokeswoman for the team.

The Indios U.S.A. are in the National Premiere Soccer League and compete with over 22 teams ranging from New York to California. The soccer team shares region with New Mexico, Colorado and California.

“We want these games to be great fun for all El Pasoans. The atmosphere is family oriented. Our tickets are very affordable, we created a kid zone with jumping balloons and it is high-level soccer that the entire family can enjoy. We want to create a good influence for the community and that is why alcohol and tobacco products will not be allowed in the games,” added Doblado.

Guests are invited to enjoy the soccer games played by our own Indios U.S.A.
